It's Okay February 27, 2009 twintwin79 (Chesapeake, VA) Well, I didn't by this reader for myself. Thus I can tell it was shipped fast and it was working. The manual is clear to understand. The pages turned realy quick, nice to handle.
Great device! February 26, 2009 A. Arens (Brooklyn, NY United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have loved this reader since I've opened it. It's very easy to load books onto and easy to read.
I've reached out to turn the page while deep into a book which is a testament to how good the text looks on the screen.
Highly recommended.
The eReader vs The Kindle February 22, 2009 Ashraf A. Dawod (Maryland, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This device is great, it has a lot of great features, many people have Pros & Cons for products, but I honestly think its perfect. I'm a Computer Tech, so when I decided I wanted to buy an eBook reader, I did my research. Of course the two main ones out there are Amazon's Kindle & the SONY eReader, here is the difference in a nutshell:
Amazon's Kindle (The first one) around $[...]
Comes in white, and has a built in Keyboard
EVDO internet
Plays Audio
SD card slot
Wikipedia
Dictionary
Blogs $[...]/each
RSS feed $[...]/each
Transfers texts & PDF's for $[...]/each
Sony's eReader around $[...]
Comes in silver or black, and has side buttons for navigation
No internet
Plays Audio
SD card slot/Memory stick
Blogs / RSS feed - free
Reads PDFs, TXT, RTF, and DOC files - free.
Being a Tech I deal with a lot of Text & PDF files, so the fact that I can simply drag and drop them into my eReader and check them out at my leisure was a huge selling point for me.
So I can't down talk the Kindle at all, especially with the improvements they've made with the Kindle 2, but at the end of the day its all about what you need your eReader to do.
If you want more in depth information about my comparison, feel free to check it out at my blog: ashNOLOGY [[...] ]
I hope this has helped.
Have a great day =)

Sony PRS-505 February 20, 2009 William T. Anderson Sony PRS-505/LC Blue Digital Book Reader I got this for work - using pdfs and reading e books. I am a mac user and this product works fine with OSX (you just use it as a mass media storage device) or use one of the non-sony software for OSX. The screen is great, but you will have to change the format of the pdf to see it better on the screen. I would not use for journal articles - but theses would work fine. The next generation of e reader should work with normal A4 pdfs. But if you want to try one out and save paper (e.g. bring the agenda for a meeting on your reader) then get the sony.

I initially wanted amazon's ebook reader but did not have the patience to wait. Most of my ebooks are from online texts converted to ebook with the program BookDesigner (books out of print etc).
Pros:
1. Easy to use. Nice bookmark feature as I tend to read and rotate through several books.
2. Nice screen and no problem with text. Did not buy the new Sony ebook on acount of problem reading text at different angle. I went to the bookstore close by for comparison of the two and it appears to comments from other readers do have validity.
3. Convert from other text with bookdesigner is easy. This is one of the reason why I love the Sony ereader as it allows me to do this. If you are like me and buy when you browse, then kindle will make you a little poorer.
Cons:
1. No dictionary. Not a big issue.
2. No search. But even if you read the hardcopy, there is no search but a plus for Kindle if you do alot of searching. I don't.
3. Still a little weighty but I do not have a kindle for comparison.
