Just not worth it June 28, 2010 Brian R Donahoe 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just bought the Kindle DX Global (I live in Germany) with Amazon's Kindle book jacket and the M-edge E-illuminator 2. I chose the M-edge because, of all the lights on Amazon's accessories page, it is the one that appeared to have been made expressly made for the Kindle. It was more expensive, but I thought it would be worth it. Now that it has arrived, I'm quite disappointed. First, it really isn't made for the Kindle, or at least not for the Kindle in the Amazon Kindle book jacket. If you put it on the left side, the hinge of the Kindle book jacket interferes with the support arm. On the right side, there's nothing to hold the support arm in place, so it moves around. The packaging of the lamp shows it fitting neatly in the inside edge of the M-edge Kindle jacket when it is not in use (i.e., along the left side of the Kindle), in which case it would be nicely protected when the jacket is closed. However, with the Amazon Kindle jacket, the jacket can't close with the lamp along the left edge, so it can only stay along the right edge, where it is unprotected and, as mentioned before, has nothing to hold it in place. It is sure to fall out of place and / or get smashed by something in my backpack or briefcase. Clearly, this is made for the M-edge Kindle jacket which, in fact, I wanted to buy but I was informed that for some reason it can't be shipped overseas, so I was stuck with Amazon's kindle jacket, for which it is completely inappropriate.
Secondly, I would say that this lamp is not very well constructed. When I read about the swivel feature that allows you to store the lamp down alongside your Kindle, I thought that was a great idea -- you can swivel it into place for reading and then back again for storage without removing it! But that's not really the case -- if you have the lamp's support arm tucked in under the left side of the Kindle, you can't swivel it because the book jacket is in the way (this is a bit hard to explain, but the battery compartment swivels half to the front and half to the back, and there's not enough room behind to allow the swivel). Moreover, the construction is so poor that the lamp pops out of the support arm every time I swivel it. It's not difficult to replace it because it's simply a snap-in plastic piece, but the chintziness of the material and construction makes me wonder how long before one or the other bit of that simple plastic mechanism breaks. While it is very lightweight, which is an important consideration, the whole thing just has the feel of a cheap little piece of plastic that will not last.
Finally, the light is not very strong and it doesn't have good coverage of the Kindle screen. It has two settings -- the more powerful setting is just about adequate to read in very low light conditions, but needs to be adjusted as you're reading because it doesn't illuminate the entire screen. The lower setting is too weak to read by in low light.

Can get in way of the Kindle leather cover at times. Light is quite bright for its size.

I love this little light. It only lights what I am reading in front of me and doesn't disturb anyone else.
Works great! June 14, 2010 Wanda Grams (Minneapolis,MN) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Now I can read at night and my husband doesn't yell "Turn Out That Light"...in fact, unless he turns towards me he doesn't even know I'm reading "after hours"!
Who Thought Up the Screw On Switch? June 10, 2010 Mrs. Thelema 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was very excited to have found such a nice and stream-lined light for my kindle. I read a lot and often into the night or in the car driving at night and this looked like a great light. Well I have had this for maybe 3 weeks and the light on switch/battery holder lid keeps falling off! This is totally annoying! It will obviously be lost very soon forever making my light completely useless and then I will have to buy another one! What a waste of money! Why did they design it like that? Didn't they expect people to use it at all? I read the reviews on this product before buying and no one mentioned that the light turns on by a tiny screw that falls off super easy and is hard to turn off without loosing the screw! Seriously! Wish I never even bought it now!
