5 out of 5 stars M-Edge e-Luminator2 Booklight makes Kindle2 reading personal!   August 20, 2010
M. Cargill (Savage, MN United States)
M-Edge e-Luminator2 book light keeps your Kindle reading personal anytime and anywhere! It's really easy to use and works just as advertised. My only quibble would be that it makes the M-Edge Kindle2 book cover a bit more bulky than I expected. But that's a matter of physics. It hasn't been a big enough problem for me to remove the light when I'm not planning on using it. Thanks M-Edge!

4 out of 5 stars E-Luminator a very good idea   August 20, 2010
M. Arnoldussen (Appleton, WI United States)
I bought the e-Luminator light and Prodigy jacket combo because it struck me as a very good design for use with a Kindle, having had the Kindle for about one month, without cover or light. I liked the jacket design combined with the self storing light concept.

I have no major regrets regarding this purchase. The minor things I have concerns about have more to do with the jacket, and I've covered that in a separate review.

Turning the light upward for use makes me wonder just how long that system will last before the plastic rotating tab breaks. I hope it lasts a long time. If I don't bend the cover back a bit, it sometimes makes an ominous little cracking sound.

The rotating tab is fitted into a slot and it can be pulled out. When rotating the light to position it, sometimes the tab slips out of the slot a bit. It's easily pushed back into place.

The neck of the light is very flexible and easy to position. Positioning it just right produces a pleasing, even glow on the screen that is very comfortable for reading. On the other hand, one little bump and I have to reposition it again. I often hold the cover at the upper back of the fold, where it's easy to bump the light. I do not fold the cover back (which would probably lessen the chances of bumping the light) because doing so stretches the inner fabric way too tight. I'm training myself to avoid bumping the light.

I find the switch's low light setting to be quite sufficient for me. I do find the switch a bit unruly, as it likes to over-shoot my attempts at turning it off, thus ending up in high light position instead, and I must try again to turn it off.

The battery presented a minor adventure. When I put the first one in, I had to apply a little pressure. This made me wonder if it would come out, so I immediately tried to remove it, to no avail. I tried a tweezers and a nail file without success. There was nothing in the included instructions addressing any tricks to battery removal. I headed over to the M-Edge web site and hunted around, finding nothing. Finally, I went to the e-Luminator page, and finally, near the bottom of the page, found a link to a PDF showing the light's parts, including an arrow pointing to "battery removal tap location." Instruction said to tap lightly and battery should slide out partially.

It took a few tries to discover precisely where this tap location was. Turned out it was right on the edge of that piece that fits into the jacket slot (illustration arrow points to the wide surface next to the edge). When I tapped it, the battery flew out, and not just partially. I recommend tapping over a bed or some other soft surface.

I was concerned that switching batteries would be a frequent nuisance. I've had the jacket and light for a week now, have used the light very often, and perceive no lessening of its brightness yet. Batteries are supposed to provide about 20 hours of use. That's encouraging.

4 out of 5 stars Best light I've tried for the Kindle   August 19, 2010

The M-Edge light fits into and can stay in my case all the time, which makes it very convenient. It is plenty bright and adjusts to any position I've needed so far. I also like that it takes an AAA battery instead of the more expensive watch-types that other lights require.

4 out of 5 stars A Light for travel   August 18, 2010

a nice little light. Wish there was some way to hook it to the carrier. Could be a bit cheaper.....Nice, small and good quality.

1 out of 5 stars Fragile Switch   August 18, 2010

This light worked great while it lasted. I've had it for about 5 months and the switch would not stay in the on position. Looks like from other reviews this happens a lot. The switch is way to fragile.
