Holds Kindle and so much more! January 23, 2010 Jim Gateley (Sunnyvale, CA) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
3 of 5 stars for the Timbuk2 Kindle Messenger Bag. Reading the description and looking at the product photos on Amazon sold me on his product as a good non-laptop bag. Yeah, I have a laptop and laptop bag for work use (and my Kindle fits nicely into my laptop bag), but, I was looking for a bag for weekend and travel use; combine my Kindle and camera stuff and water bottle and other little things. The Messenger bag has met my expectations. The bag is the perfect size. It has a couple of external pockets including one with for keys which is tied back to the bag. Inside is a big empty area, a small envelope for your Kindle and another envelope area with many small pockets for everything from phone to business cards. I specially like the large empty space to put big things. The interior has waterproof material. The shoulder strap is quickly and easily adjustable from shoulder to hand-bag length.
So, why three stars? There are several design problems to consider before you buy:
1) The envelope for your Kindle nicely holds the 6" Kindle. However, if you Kindle is housed in ANY of the various folders or zipper bags, it will NOT fit into this envelope. ONLY a bare 6" Kindle will fit!
2) The bag claims to be for Kindle or Netbooks, unless your netbook is exactly the same size as a Kindle it ain't going to fit. If your netbook is 1/2" thick, forget it. If you intend to carry a netbook, try the fit before you buy!
3) There are no handles on the top of the bag only the adustable shoulder strap. This makes grabbing the bag and carrying it difficult unless you use the strap. For example, my laptop bag has two small handles on either side of the top plus a shoulder strap.
4) While the materials are waterproof, the way the flap covers the body of the bag, there is a large top gap on either side of the flap. That means if you are out in the rain, rain goes right into the bag via the two gaps on either side of the flap.
So, yes, it is a good bag, not perfect, but good. Most likely I use it for things other than Kindle as my Kindle better fits (with the leather cover) into my laptop bag's outside pocket.
Looks Can Be Deceiving January 9, 2010 AHefner (Oklahoma) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Let me say this. I was excited about coming home to another awaiting amazon.com box on my porch. Got off work and drove home and there it was, waiting for me. Like I expected. Grabbed the box and ran inside to open my newly arrived gift to myself. Opened the box and my expression turned to that of disappointment.
I was expecting something more. I was expecting a bag that would hold several of my books (Not novels, textbooks sized books). Maybe my laptop. This bag at first glance reminded me of my wife's purse. Not something I want strapped to my back. So I placed the bag back into the plastic protective bag. Logged into Amazon and printed my return label and ordered another bag.
So to let everyone know the size of this bag. It is the classic Timbuk2 Message Bag XS (extra small) with a Timbuk2 Kindle Sleeve attached to the inside of it. Now having already bought the Timbuk2 Sleeve I didn't need another sleeve that is permanently attached to a bag that could be mistaken for my wife's purse.
Once the return label was printed I immediately visited Timbuk2's website to compare the size of the Extra Small Classic Messenger Bag to the Medium (normal) Classic Messenger Bag. After comparing the sizes I headed back to Amazon.com and ordered the Medium Class Messenger Bag.
To actually give this product and the products of Timbuk2 an actual review I would say that this bag constructed very well and out of great materials.
Overall a great bag. Just not a great bag for me.
My current favorite bag January 8, 2010 A. Tyree (Midwest USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this bag. I use it as a work bag, purse, and for Kindle keeping. It is small enough to take anywhere, yet large enough to carry everything I need. I was disappointed to find my Kindle does not fit in the inside sleeve with the Kindle cover on, nor is the sleeve in the bag removable. I just carry my cover in the bag and put the cover back on to read. Slight inconvenience, but one worth noting. The outside of the bag is durable, the inside is bright and cleanable. No regrets.
Really useful bag January 7, 2010 Brenda Pope (Auckland, New Zealand) I have used my Kindle Messenger bag every day since I bought it. It is really easy to find things in it and holds much more than you would think by looking at it. I take it everywhere and am still finding handy uses for the pockets and attachments. It is light and weatherproof and as an older person I can wear it over my opposite shoulder for safety. The special Kindle pocket is a very good idea and protects it from wear and tear.

Nice Bag, Plenty of compartments. However, only kindle will fit.kindle in a cover will not fit. Also, bag is a little stiff, not soft.
