 Great Cover - one big flaw July 13, 2009

I absolutely love this cover for it's looks and the attention to detail that someone had when they designed it. It connects to the Kindle DX very easily and it doesn't come off. There are magnets in both the top and back cover so that it doesn't open up unless you want it to. The spine also allows you to fold the front cover completely open so that it rests on the back of the kindle. Very nice! Also, I noticed that the inside of the front cover has just a bit of an indentation notched out where it touches the "joy stick" of the kindle. I guess that's to keep from accidentaly pressing in the joy stick when the cover is closed.
The cover looks great and is very functional, though I there is one pretty big design flaw that could cause harm to your DX. that is to say that you cannot completely open the back cover or you will break the casing on your DX! At the very least you will bend it up pretty good.
It probably wouldn't be too big a deal, except that sometimes I'm not paying attention to how the kindle is orriented and I try to open the back cover thinking that it's the front cover. (i.e. I have the kindle upside down and turned over) If you do this you'll notice that you encounter some resistance after getting it open about 3". STOP! If you force it open you can rip the cover out of the Kindle and bend up the little slots that connect the cover to the DX.
You can avoid this damage by making sure that the little silver "Amazon Kindle" inlay on the front cover is in the lower right hand corner prior to opening.

Do not buy this! I am warning you it will crack your brand new KINDLE! Amazon has designed this poorly and is claiming it cracks your KINDLE due to "user error" - which is ridiculous, it is like opening a book, it is not difficult. They include no instructions or warning that this might happend and are unwilling to replace or take any responsibility for it cracking a $489 device. Completely unacceptable! Do not buy!

Worth the cost to protect the Kindle from the hazards of the living room and knocking about in the car. The clasp/catch that secures the Kindle to the cover looks weak but I have not broken it yet.

I like the portability of this cover....I don't like that it announces that I'm carrying an AmazonKindle on the front cover...It would be better for me if it had no markings on it at all...It does a great job of protecting the Kindle, though.

I almost didn't buy this cover because other reviews mentioned it could crack the Kindle if forcibly opened from the rear flap. I decided to get it anyway, and after using it for a week, I am happy with my decision. It feels great, smells great, looks great, and provides essential protection for my kindle DX screen while I'm on the go.
As for its potential to accidentally crack the Kindle: I've just been careful to only open it from the front cover. This is actually a really easy habit to develop because the front cover is marked with a shiny metallic Amazon logo. Just as I've never tried to open my laptop upside-down, I don't suspect I will have a problem always opening my Kindle from the front flap.
