3 out of 5 stars Kindle leather cover.   March 3, 2009

I just received the leather cover for my Kindle. It is nice, but very basic. I would like to have seen a location for a business card or other ID, in case of misplacing it. Additionally, it would be nice to have the cover 'fold up' to angle the Kindle a bit for easier reading. Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars A Needed Item   March 3, 2009

Having this cover makes all the difference in enjoying my K2. The quality is excellent. I ordered the Belkin and this one, to check them out, and returned the Belkin yesterday....an easy decision. A good buy.

1 out of 5 stars This is leather?   March 3, 2009

$30 for this? Some cardboard and fake leather? No thanks. This low quality excuse for a case should have been included with the Kindle. I returned mine ASAP and opted for a higher quality, cheaper, and more protective alternative.

5 out of 5 stars Meets My Needs   March 2, 2009

The Amazon Kindle 2 leather cover definitely meets my needs.

I received the K2 as a gift, without accessories. I carried it around in my briefcase, wrapped in a makeshift heavy paper cover, which got scratched up, and I realized I would need a cover as soon as possible. I researched all the options mentioned in the various discussions about the K2, and decided to purchase this one.

PROs:

1) I love the hinges. They are the main reason I decided to go with this one because they are very secure. Velcro isn't for me, because it creates a bulge; I used to discard it when I received a cover for my other handheld devices. Neither are those ugly straps on the other covers. I would not trust them to be secure. This one allows me to use the device unimpeded by extraneous leather.

2) I love how it folds back neatly and allows one-handed reading. The lining is particularly soft and pleasing to touch. Or I can hold it open like a physical book.

3) The pebbled leather gives me a more secure grip when I am handling it.

CONs:

1) It IS a little too expensive, considering that it costs more than a hardback book.

2) The pebbled leather appearance reminds me of my old paper organizer; it isn't the most beautiful thing to look at.

3) The lack of personalization is a minor detriment, considering that we will soon be a two-Kindle family with the same cover on both. I would have loved to have a nameplate instead of the Amazon/Kindle one on the front.

In spite of my "cons" I'd order this again and will enjoy using it for a long time to come.

2 out of 5 stars Not worth the money   March 2, 2009

Despite having to pay the return shipping cost, I've just sent back this Kindle cover for a refund. It's not worth the money.

For one thing, it's ugly: The leather looks and feels second-rate and the Amazon metal logo on the outside is cheap and nasty. Compared to the elegant Italian-leather cover that came (free!) with the Kindle 1, this cover looks like something made in China. Furthermore, as other reviewers have noted, this cover does not shut, meaning coins and crumbs and other stuff at the bottom of your handbag or briefcase end up stuck to the Kindle's face.

Since I need something to protect my Kindle while traveling, I'm going to try the Belkin Neoprene case and continue to hope that some other third-party provider comes out soon with something that works well, looks good, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. This cover just doesn't cut it.
