Cover does what it is suppose to do March 4, 2009 Melanie B. Kearns 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had an Oberon with my K1 and decided that I wanted something less heavy for my K2. I got the Amazon cover and the smell was bad. I sprayed a little fabreeze on the inside very lighty and then wiped off the residue. That took care of the odor and now I am pretty happy with the Amazon cover. I have an M edge on order but will cancel it because this cover does a good job. One star off for the smell
Great cover for Kindle2 March 4, 2009 Shanmom 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this promptly after recieving my kindle2 and am soooo glad I did...the clips make it the obvious choice, as the kindle2 snaps safely into the cover. Leather is perfect and it makes you feel even more like you are reading a real book. Well worth the $30!
OCTOVO alternative cover March 4, 2009 avid (Alexandria, VA United States) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you want an attractive, well-made, slim, inexpensive case for Kindle 2 and you want it NOW (sorry, M-Edge), take a look at "OCTOVO sleeve for the Amazon Kindle 2" - $21.95. Not leather but looks like it, sturdy, fits like a glove, and adds very little bulk.
Ahhh, reviewers, reviewers..... March 4, 2009 R. T. Tedrow (Washington, D.C.) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have read maybe 10 or 12 reviews of the new Kindle. All of the reviews are favorable, many are written by persons who did not favorably review the first Kindle and each carefully notes that the newer version of the Kindle is not changed in any major way -- and that some of the changes like a non-replaceable battery and no memory card expansion slot are negatives. Phew! What a long sentence; sorry. The obvious point is, if not so much has changed with the Kindle, why did the reviews change? Because the reviewers finally "get it" -- actually, they only sort of get it. Because you and I have bought the Kindle, are using it, and more people will. It is the future. If you travel and read, you have to have it. Because of forests and trees you ought to get it anyway.
No matter what's said about the Sony Reader, it is no competition for the Kindle because of the Amazon library availability. Sony has not, does not and will not play well with others, so it will never be easy to get material on that machine. Sony will never, for example, team up with Barnes & Noble for a Kindle-like arrangement. Do you want to read a book or fiddle around with getting material onto the Sony Reader? Anyway, sales don't lie.
Finally, the really interesting part that the reviewers don't get yet is that Amazon is not just going into the e-book biz, Amazon is going into the publishing business.Kindle 2: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation)
A classy, smelly cover for the Kindle 2 March 4, 2009 gadgetgirl (Atlanta, GA United States) This Kindle 2 cover is simple, structured, and classy. The leather has a nice texture, the felt interior is soft and protective, and the metal clips hold the Kindle securely inside. The brushed-silver nameplate on the front is small, unobtrusive and tasteful. I don't mind that there's no tab to fasten it closed; it still does a fine job of protecting the Kindle. I love the way the front cover folds all the way back and out of the way when I'm reading. The Kindle 2 is so thin that the folded cover gives it a bit more heft, making it easier to hold. Overall, this cover seems well-made, although it's too early to tell how well it will hold up to daily use.
I gave this cover 4 stars instead of 5 primarily due to the nasty chemical smell - maybe from the glue used to hold it together? The stink was overwhelming at first, but has dissipated somewhat over the past few days, so I'm hopeful that it will fade away completely over time. It's not a deal-breaker for me, but it might be for people who are very sensitive to smells. Also, I'm disappointed that this cover is only available in boring black. I don't realistically expect them to offer it in my favorite girly colors like purple and pink, but brown, blue, tan or green would be nice alternatives to the ubiquitous, conservative (yawn) black.
