Fantastic! But it, Buy it, Buy it! July 26, 2010 Clvr//nom 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I ordered the Graphite Kindle DX, as a gift on the fourth of july (three dyas before it was released on the seventh) and it was delivered during the day on the eighth. It arrived in excellent condition and the gift wrap\box was beautiful:)
From experiance, I can honestly say it is wonderful as a gift to service members; my best friend is a Marine and when he recieved the DX he flipped the roof lol. especially since he was a few days from Advanced Training (Where the Marine reservists go out and tromp around in the woods for a couple weeks learning and rehearsing skills and such; esentially camping lol) and was able to water-proof it with a simple plastic bag and make the battery last for a solid 14 days since the e-ink only uses power to flip the page.
An Excellent Device! BUY IT :)
Attention European potential customers July 26, 2010 David Linares Leyva 4 out of 11 found this review helpful
Hi, I just bought Kindel dx graphite. wornderfull resolution, clarity, battery ... However, as an european buyer dissapointed. On top of the 90 USD extra custom duties + not able to Subscribe to Econonist + not able to buy several books as "How to growht when market don't" and " Execution" from Larry Bossidy. I feel myself screw up. I think Amazon has to solve those issues or the product will be unatractive for users outside USA. Again the quality is by far better than sony for instant (I got PRS-600 already). I was number one fun of this company for his service with paper books. But if they do not change the policy or the agreements with authors, and magazins, it will remain purely a great company in electronic books for USA customers only.
VERY PLEASED July 26, 2010 BUSKIRK007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Kindle is everything it is advertised to be and even more. I am very satisfied with my Kindle. My eyesight is failing due to diabetes. I love to read but it became cumbersome---Kindle has given me a new lease on my reading enjoyment. A single battery charge seems to last forever-I can read outside in the sunshine and don't have to strain to see the words----Thank you very much Kindle.

$380? i can get around 36 paperbacks for this price and actually own them with no worries about recalls etc...maybe if this came with say 10 free $9.95 downloads at this price it might be worth it
Great reading device July 26, 2010 Tavicz 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have Kindle DX (the 1st gen) from May 2010, and I'm very satisfied.
I was looking for a device, where I could read my e-documents, mostly university mimeographed, fantasy, ditective stories. The 9,7" is big enough for comfortable reading. And the text is pretty clear on the direct sunlight as well (compared to my HTC cell phone and notebook). And it's great the battery hodls about 10-14 days charged.
Shopping at Kindle Store is pretty easy and comfortable as well. It's only pity, that there are not books in Czech.
My wife has been sceptical of the Kindle at first. She doesn't like electornic stuff. However, she is a great reader, and when she finished a novel by Agatha Christie and the library was closed, she borrowed my Kindle. I showed her how to handle it, and she fall in love with the Kindle. From the time she's reading on Kindle all the time she wants to read, and it's very often. So, I'm thinking about to buy a new one.
Even it's a great device for purpose of reading e-books, there are some minor issues:
- Reading PDF documents are still not comfortable enough. I'd like if I could move around the zoomed page more freely (softly) like with the "hand" in Adobe Reader, not with the jumps like now. I read a lot PDF Magazines and PDF books by Wizards of the Cost. They have two or three columns and it's not comfortable to read them with the currect support of PDFs.
- When I have a doc file (MS Word document) and convert it to Amazon Kindle's document (azw), the formatting is ofthen broken. Especially tables, spacing between dotted tab stops (the Tab Leader settings), font size, and the picture placing.
- There is no support for DjVu format.
Nevertheless, I'm very satified with Kindle and I hope the minor issues will be solved in a future firmware update.
