Loved it ...... until I dropped it o.ce from a low height while it was in its cover and it broke the screen not sire is the price tag is worthwhile. As not hardy. Smallerversion cheaper and does not hurt the pocket as much
Almost perfect August 31, 2010 Marcsattacks 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
From Spain enjoying my Kindle,
everything is perfect (image quality, amazon service, design, interface...) but the way of managing your files, in my case I use to read lots of short files and trying to manage them in folders with the device is so boring. Please develope something to manage files using the computer!!
And it would be also interesting to have a spanish reader for text in Spanish!
Love my new Kindle August 31, 2010 Sandy H 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love my new Kindle. I didn't realize how much faster and easier I could read and not skip sentences or read the wrong words until I got my Kindle. I can see it so clearly and my eyes don't tire like they did. I also like not having to store my many books.
Amazing delivery to Sydney, Australia, nice big type, fast downloading August 31, 2010 Irwin H. Kurtz (Frenchs Forest, Australia) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was amazed at the quick delivery of my Kindle DX which was delivered to my door (in Sydney Australia - as a birthday present from my wife) 4 days after it was ordered!
I find it easy to read especially since it has a nice big screen (bigger than other ebook readers I researched) and I can select nice big clear type as I am 81 years old.
Also that I can sit outside in the sun drinking coffee and still read my Kindle.
I am impressed with the fast downloading of a current book or magazine even to me here in Australia.
The ability to download a book without having to go out to a bookstore is also very convenient.
When I go to a doctor's appointment I can sit in the waiting room and read it without having to carry a big klunky book and/or magazine. Also that nobody knows what book or magazine I'm reading.

No colors? I don't mind at all August 30, 2010 QES 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I decided to buy a dedicated e-reader
because I just want to read. No gadgets. No fancy apps. Neither e-mail client nor just another phone. No photo viewer (well, that would be nice, but only if coloured e-ink is available).
I decided to buy an e-ink device
because of its ultimative contrast which allows reading in bright sunlight as well as when the moon hides behind a cloud and
because of its extreme low power consumption enabling to read for days far away from electritcity or simply during trans-continental flights
3 weeks ago, I ordered the Amazon DX
because of its screen size which is available at a very attractive prize and
because a lot of those books I plan to buy the next months already have kindle editions
I got it within 36 hrs which is unbelievable short (Indianapolis -> Zurich).
I was pleased to find out, that its weight is that, what I can bear for hours
I was excited to learn what its technical specifications mean in reality: Contrast and battery life time are *far* beyond my expectations. Who will miss colours?
I just copied 6 pdf documentation files (~3000 pages) I ever wanted to read somewhere where I've some peace and quiet. Then I bought which means I downloaded the story from Amazon for free.
I started reading: When beeing in train, aircraft, bed, garden, at the pool, beach, in the forest, in the mountains, during meals (when I'm alone)... Because of its weight, the kindle is almost every time within reach.
I prefer reading a text straight on. So I don't miss navigation capabilities in pdfs. But: If there is one thing that could be done better, start at pdf navigation capabilities!
And an html reader for a pack of local files would also be very nice.
A small drawback: Harry Potter is not available as Kindle Edition. I really hope, that Amazon's debates with publishers come to a good end - I'm sure that on the long term available contents will decide on the success of e-books. Publishers are well advised to carefully analyse what happened to the music industry.
Last not least: Thanks for relinquishing a touch screen! The display keeps pretty clean. No grease spots, no nutrient medium for bacterial cultures, free sight to the content!
Conclusion: Purchasing the kindle DX is one of the really good ideas I had during the last 5 years.
