My Kindle DX September 11, 2009 Susan G. Weichsel (Boca Raton, Fl. USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am extremely pleaasantly surprised. It feels good in my hands, it is very well organized and it delivers my New York Times faithfully every A.M.
I haven't even begun to learn all the other things it can do, but this it does magnificently.
Best Birthday Ever! September 11, 2009 Jolene Esterline (Madison, WI USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought the Kindle DX as a birthday present to myself and it was the best purchase I have ever made. Since I bought the device about a month ago I have read everyday and have completed well over 10 books. I have even revisited some of the classics that are FREE downloads from the Kindle store! If you LOVE reading, you will LOVE this device! The screen is large and so easy to read. For people who are concerned about the tactile experience of holding a book and turning pages, I promise you won't be disappointed. The device is weighted in ways that are very similar to books and there are plenty of opportunities to "turn pages." This device has far exceeded my expectations and now I'm trying to find ways to integrate even more parts of my life into the device. Uploading my schedule for the week (pdf format) and my songs for a little background music. I keep finding new features and opportunities with the Kindle DX and I can't wait to see what more there is to come!
Update suggestions September 11, 2009 Arthur Mendelow 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wonderful machine and will eventually replace books.Ability to enlarge text important for defective or aging vision.
Update:Color screen instead of B&W.
Use of SD chip to enlarge memory or make specific libraries allowing better cataloging.
Kindle DX the MOST Fantastic Unit - A Must Have September 10, 2009 Sharon L. Dragonetti (Southern California) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Kindle DX is extremely easy to use and easy to read. Within 10 minutes I had gone through the instructions and ordered my first 16 books, a few of them FREE. The others were at minimum $2 less than Costco's prices. It's easy to hold; it returns to previous pages or items quickly; the print is perfect for tired eyes, but can be changed easily too. The dictionary is terrific. I seldom need it, but when I do, phew, it's thorough. The only problem that I've found so far is that I'm using Waaaay too much and will have to also buy my husband and son one each as I don't like to share!
It is a big deal September 10, 2009 Michael L. Maddin 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
A number of people have covered the DX's shortcomings in relation to pdf support, lack of folders for organization, lack of ePub support, etc, all of which are problems that need to be addressed. However, while several of the reviews that I read mention that there is no "next page" button on the left, the reviewers tend to say things like "It may not seem like a big deal.."
In fact, for me it was a deal breaker. I am right-handed and hold my book in my left hand, leaving the right hand free for coffee cups, sandwiches, note taking, or whatever. Examine your reading handedness carefully before ordering, because for all practical purposes the DX requires that you hold it in your right hand, assuming that you don't have to hold it in both hands because of the size.
The Kindle 2's button layout is transparent to the user - I'll wait 'til Amazon gets the buttons right on the DX.
