Amazon Kindle Review March 10, 2010 T. Rose (Minot, ND) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased my Kindle a little over a month ago and I have to say--I love it more than my books!
I am not a "techie" so I was very hesitant to spend $260 on a product I might not like. I did the research on the various readers, found the Kindle had the features I wanted and downloaded the Kindle PC version to get a feel for it.
And then, I took the plunge. I was impressed with it right out of the box. Easy directions, wonderful interface and a product that actually lived up to all the hype.
I am not a Kindle expert,:)I probably never will be. But I can download books from on line and be reading them even in a remote area like Northern North Dakota (think of Canada and come down about 40 miles.)
I read some reviews about people not feeling like they were actually reading a book, but I didn't find this to be true. It is lighter than a small paperback book, but holds up to a 1500 books! Have I mentioned I love it?
If you are hesitating buying an e-reader I'd say go for it and get a Kindle. I know I do not regret it.
I LOVE the Kindle March 10, 2010 Paul B. Wells (Burlington, NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Once you get used to the menu's and how to navigate the Kindle, I have nothing but love for this device. Saving trees, having our book collection in one spot, and being able to buy books on the fly....all great perks. Initially I bought this Kindle for my wife and I to share, suffice it to say I've not read a book on the Kindle yet, beyond a few pages here and there. We were concerned about going from the feel of a book in our hand to reading digital, transition was made the first day by both of us. The dictionary that follows your books is pretty cool too, some of those unknown words you tend to gloss over when reading, you can understand now with a minimum effort of moving the cursor over top of the word, and viewing the bottom of your screen. The other fear we had was in sharing books. Kindle Reader is available on the PC, my iTouch, and now on Blackberry's but unfortunately I have an older model. But being able to shift books around to different devices means I can read my books and trade since we share the same account. Looks like there is a 2nd Kindle in our near future. Great device. Thanks Amazon!
Kindle 2 Great March 10, 2010 D. Drake (Tampa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had my kindle for a week. It is great. I find it to be a wonderfull device. I love the read to me application. I let it read to me while I cook or drive. I just wish the browser was better.
The Kindle itself is a great reader. I still have not tried everything it will do. What I have tried is wounderful.
Kindle International Disappointment March 10, 2010 Roberto di Sydney (Sydney, Australia) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am disappointed that when ordering the Kindle, there was little or no warning that far fewer titles are available to Australian users than in the US. Many of my favourite authors are not represented at all, or if they are then only with few of their works.
Similarly no Australian and very few Italian newspapers are offered.
Over time I expect that the range will be extended but had I known the limitations I may have delayed the purchase, which was intended as a gift, but now I'm not sure it will be well received.
My versatile book March 9, 2010 Alexandre H. Pastore (Brazil) I was given my kindle in January as a birthday gift. Since then, I've been reading a lot on my kindle, including a local newspaper of which the subscription was available (I'm from Brazil). Every purchase I have made so far has taken less then a minute to get to my kindle, and it's important to again mention the fact that I am in Brazil, and the 3G connection works perfectly well.
When it comes to the look of the screen, I have to say it is absolutely perfect. I work for long periods of time with my computer, and the kindle screen is definitely much more comfortable to look at, and the reading feeling is just like in a regular book (and I am an "old time books" lover, I have to say). Despite my love for the actual books, advantages are clear when you have to use the dictionary, take notes, highlights, and most of all, when I have to pack to go out on a business or a vacation travel and I can take one single light and small device with all I might want to read at the time. And also know that my news will be there early morning.
The kindle is here to stay!
