5 out of 5 stars bye bye books   September 2, 2010
kim sperling (San Diego)
I can't say enough good things about the Kindle. My husband was very happy when I told him I wouldn't have to bye another book case. It fits in my purse so I take it everywhere. I also bought an awesome skin from DecalGirl Protective Kindle Skin (Fits 6" Display, Latest Generation Kindle) Flying Tree Black (Matte Finish)

5 out of 5 stars Can't seem to put it down   September 1, 2010

Reading is my favorite funtime activity. But now with my Kindle, I just want to spend more time reading. It is so convenient to carry it with me and read while waiting at appointments, at break time at work, and of course during the evening hours. I don't watch any TV so my Kindle is my evening activity.
I used to take ten books with me on vacation, taking up so much space while traveling; now my Kindle is filled with all my favorite literature classics to reread, autobiographies, and my favorite authors' works, all contained in a light-weight, easy to read, easy to hold Kindle device.
I read two or three books at a time which the Kindle makes it easy going from one to another.
Thanks, Amazon, for all the free books I have downloaded on my Kindle. The Wispernet transfer is quick and I love the feature that I can have just a sample chapter sent to read.
My Kindle truly is a pleasure!

5 out of 5 stars Kindle, great product   September 1, 2010
Francisco
The Kindle is a great product. I received it as a gift from my wife. I am from and live in Mexico, but I have always liked to read books in English. It is an excellent way to practice the language and it also gives me access to a great variety of authors. Thanks to the Kindle I have immediate access to a huge array of books. 3G works perfectly in Mexico and in seconds I can buy books and have them downloaded in my Kindle immediately. Actually, I now find myself reading more than before. I have also found a good amount of books in Spanish, mostly classics; I think Amazon is doing a good job in expanding its book offers in languages other than English. The display of the Kindle is excellent; I can read for hours as if reading a normal book. I can travel and have a good amount of books to read without overloading my luggage. I highly recommend this product.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent but more crash-prone than Kindle 2   August 31, 2010
R. Sigal (Calgary, Canada)
The pros of this device have been well covered by others. It is compact, lightweight, very easy on the eyes and generally a pleasure to use. I like it enough that I ordered a second one for my wife.

I previously had the Kindle 2 for 30 days, having bought it on the last day it was available. It was slightly larger and heavier than the kindle 3, but never crashed. The lighter build of the Kindle 3 is partially a disadvantage; I suspect that if it were accidentally dropped, it would be more likely to get damaged than a Kindle 2. For this reason, there is probably more need to use a carrying case, which would add weight to the package and essentially negate the advantage versus Kindle 2 of lower device weight.

The Kindle 3 has crashed numerous times in the 5 days I have had it. This was particularly true when I used wi-fi to access the web or wikipedia. I finally decided to turn wi-fi off and just use the 3G connection. There has still been one crash since then, while I was navigating sections in a Kindle-version newspaper, but that is a lot better than crashing every few minutes.

I rate this device four stars, but rated the Kindle 2 five stars.
